Study abroad

Have you ever been abroad? Would you like to study, live and grow in an exciting environment? During your studies at Siena, you can spend time studying and living abroad. You can take exams, do an internship or even graduate from one of the many universities in the network. This experience makes all the difference, not only to your career but also to your whole life. During the months abroad, you will be able to meet new colleagues and friends, discover what it is like to study, do research in other academic realities, or test yourself with languages. The DSSBC offers you a huge number of destinations, where prepared colleagues await you, ready to put your study interests to use on a personalised basis.
Here are the different ways you can spend a period abroad.
ERASMUS FOR STUDIES
Train in a European university for a period of 3 to 12 months and take a minimum of 12 CFUs. We have more than 50 active Erasmus agreements, in as many as 15 European countries!
ERASMUS FOR TRAINEESHIP
You can do a traineeship at a European university, company (public or private) or institute. This will make your CV stand out and any quality experience you gain will be recognised across Europe.

►  You will get a cash GRANT, free enrolment at the host university and extra grants depending on where you go. How much you get depends on the cost of living in your destination country and your income. The grant also includes a language course and the opportunity to take up a sport when you arrive, such as tango or kayaking.

ELAN (European Liberal Arts Network)

This is an even more incredible agreement than Erasmus! Siena is part of a small group of European universities, ancient and prestigious in the Humanities, which exchange excellent students, to be followed according to their specific scientific interests.

You can leave for a period (generally 1 semester) to do 15 CFUs of which 5 are dedicated to the realisation of your personal project. ELAN only exists for the humanities and provides for a strong integration between the topic of the project and the examinations to be taken.

► The GRANT gives you the right to a contribution equal to the Erasmus grant with the following timing: 3 monthly payments (following receipt of the certificate signed by the host University certifying the date of the student's arrival) + balance (after delivery of the certificate of stay signed by the host university certifying the actual period of study with the dates of arrival and departure).

If you are among the winners, you will not have to bear the enrolment costs at the partner university, but will be regularly enrolled at the University of Siena.

For all these opportunities, the costs of insurance (often not necessary within the EU), travel and accommodation will be borne by the winners.

DOUBLE TITLE DEGREES
Do you want to study History and Philosophy or Archaeology in an international environment?
Double degree programmes can help you do this!

You can enrol in one of the double degrees that the DSSBC has set up with the University of Grenoble (for History and Philosophy) and with the University of Rennes2 (for Archaeology). To get the double degree, you'll need to spend a semester (up to two semesters for Grenoble) at the partner university, taking exams that both universities have agreed on in advance. Then, you'll write a thesis based on the specific course you've done, which will give you a very well-respected title that's recognised in both European countries.

The GRANT gives you a contribution equal to the amount of an Erasmus grant. This is paid in three monthly instalments (after sending the certificate of stay to the host university to show the date you arrived) and the balance (when you hand in the final documents). If there is enough money, you might also get a grant to partly cover your travel costs.
